Natives recommended for Central Otago conditions

Central Otago’s climate is defined by hot, dry summers, bitterly cold winters, and frequent hard frosts, making plant selection critical for long-term success. Our Central Otago Collection features New Zealand native plants proven to thrive in these extreme inland conditions, chosen for their ability to cope with temperature extremes, low rainfall, intense sun, and free-draining soils. From alpine shrubs and hardy tussocks to resilient trees and groundcovers, these plants are ideal for Cromwell, Alexandra, Clyde, and surrounding inland areas, delivering tough, low-maintenance performance and year-round structure in one of New Zealand’s most demanding growing environments.
