Silver tussock is a larger tussock grass that is light green when young, but becomes silver green to tawny brown as it ages in tough conditions. Silver tussock is a favourite in the high country where it blends naturally with the landscape and thrives in the tough alpine conditions. It fits the environment well and will marry modern architecture to the surrounds.

Silver tussock is also tough enough to grow on the coast, thriving in this tough environment. It prefers open exposed situations, and will even thrive on exposed cliff tops.
