Nothofagus menziesii - Large Size
Nothofagus menziesii - Silver beech - Tawhai (or tahina), is a large forest tree of the Southern beech family. It is a tolerant and tough tree, that will withstand a wide range of conditions. It has an interesting whitish coloured bark (hence the name Silver Beech), particularly in younger specimens. It has fine glossy dark green leaves and produces red flowers. It tolerates wide ranging conditions from coastal to alpine. It particularly thrives in wetter climates and does fine in porr soil conditions. Being a larger forest it is great for establishing regnerative bush, and shelter belts etc. It will eventually grow massive but this will take a very long time, it is easy to maintain this to a manageable size in an urban or house garden setting. Mature height 10m x width 5m (garden setting - will grow larger if allowed).
These are our large size in 9cm square pots.
