Ophiopogon japonicus – Mondo Grass

A lush, low-growing groundcover for shady spaces

Ophiopogon japonicus, commonly known as Mondo Grass, is a versatile, grass-like perennial that forms neat clumps of deep green, strappy foliage. It's the go-to choice for low borders, underplanting, and mass groundcover—especially in shaded or tricky spots where lawn won’t grow.

🌱 Dense & Tidy Growth
Spreading slowly by underground rhizomes, Mondo Grass forms a uniform, mat-like carpet that’s ideal between pavers, beneath trees, or in modern garden designs.

☀️ Thrives in Shade
Perfect for shady or semi-shaded areas, but will tolerate sun in cooler climates.

🌸 Subtle Summer Flowers
In summer, it produces small spikes of soft lilac to white flowers, sometimes followed by tiny blue berries.
