Natives recommended for Southland conditions

Southland’s gardens are shaped by cool temperatures, high rainfall, frequent wind, and regular frosts, creating conditions where only genuinely tough plants succeed long term. Our Southland Collection brings together New Zealand native plants well suited to these southern conditions, selected for their ability to cope with cold winters, wet soils, wind exposure, and short growing seasons. From hardy shrubs and shelter-forming trees to resilient grasses and groundcovers, these natives are ideal for urban Invercargill gardens, rural landscapes, and exposed coastal or inland sites, delivering reliable growth, strong structure, and low-maintenance performance across the Southland region.
