Fun Fact / Botanical Insight
Aristotelia hybrids (Aristotelia × fruserrata) naturally arise from crosses between Aristotelia serrata, a small forest-margin tree, and Aristotelia fruticosa, a sub-alpine shrub. These hybrids are found throughout New Zealand. The original form that led to the well-known “Pioneer Collection” of cultivars was discovered near Lake Wakatipu, with further selections developed through a Central Otago breeding programme—resulting in several exceptionally tough, alpine-adapted Wineberry cultivars.
Why Choose Aristotelia ‘Kingsley Butler’?
A compact, cold-hardy Wineberry selection offering striking burgundy foliage and masses of spring flowers—perfect for gardeners wanting colour, resilience, and low maintenance.
