Create an attractive, resilient planting for slopes, banks and difficult sloping ground with this contemporary combination of hardy New Zealand natives. This mix combines spreading groundcover, fibrous-rooted grasses, substantial structural shrubs and strong architectural plants to establish vegetation at several levels. The different growth forms help cover exposed soil, establish root networks through the bank and create a stylish, contemporary native landscape rather than a conventional revegetation planting.

• 20x Chionochloa flavicans – Miniature Toetoe – A compact native tussock with dense, arching green foliage and attractive feathery flower heads. Its substantial fibrous root system makes it particularly useful on banks and slopes, where numerous fine roots help bind the upper layers of soil. Its broad clumping habit provides useful ground coverage while adding softness and movement throughout the planting. Height 60–80 cm × Width 60–80 cm.
• 14x Coprosma kirkii – A low, spreading native Coprosma particularly well suited to covering open areas of sloping ground. Its trailing growth spreads laterally across the bank, helping protect exposed soil while its branching root system contributes to surface stabilisation. It works particularly well beneath and between the larger plants, gradually creating a low continuous layer across the slope. Height 30–50 cm × Width 1–1.5 m.
• 16x Griselinia littoralis – Broadleaf – A vigorous, substantial native shrub providing the larger woody framework within the planting. Its developing root system extends through a greater volume of soil than the smaller surface-covering plants, while its dense evergreen canopy provides increasing shelter as the planting matures. Particularly useful for establishing substantial long-term vegetation on larger banks and slopes. Height 3–5 m × Width 2–3 m.
• 6x Cordyline ‘Red Star’ – A striking upright cabbage tree with long, narrow burgundy-red foliage that introduces strong vertical structure and colour to the bank. Its substantial root system and tolerance of exposed conditions make it a useful structural plant for difficult sloping sites, while its relatively narrow footprint allows it to rise through lower spreading plants without dominating valuable ground coverage. Height 2–3 m × Width 1–1.5 m.
• 6x Astelia ‘Westland’ – A substantial clumping native with broad, arching foliage in silver-green enriched with bronze and copper tones. Its dense fibrous root mass makes it particularly useful for helping bind surface soils, while the broad clumping habit provides valuable coverage on open slopes. Its architectural foliage gives the planting considerable visual weight at lower levels and contrasts strongly with the finer grasses and upright Cordylines. Height 60 cm–1 m × Width 60 cm–1 m.
